Designing for NEM 3.0 and SDG&E rates
Anyone interconnecting since April 2023 falls under NEM 3.0, which substantially reduced compensation for exported energy. The design question is therefore how much of your generation you consume as you produce it.
For a school, that means sizing against term-time daytime load and thinking carefully about the summer holiday period. For a warehouse with refrigeration, it means the load is already well matched. For an office with evening cleaning and HVAC run-on, storage may carry more value than additional panels.
Section 48E provides a 30% federal credit on qualifying commercial solar, and facilities below 1 MW are exempt from prevailing-wage and apprenticeship requirements, so they reach the full rate automatically. Nothing here is tax advice — we work alongside your accountant.
